Sunday, we left church at the early (and rare) hour of 3pm. We usually have meetings and stuff til at least 6 or 7, but many church members left after lunch for the JECA conference (Japanese Evangelical Church Association), so no meetings were planned. I took the opportunity to enjoy the weather for the rest of the beautiful afternoon. I grabbed a book and went to the park. There were a few people scattered throughout the park, mostly families or a parent-child pair. It was beautiful to see parents spending some one-on-one quality time with their kids. The park was also peaceful and quite. I saw a swing set on my way to find a good bench and couldn't help myself. So I swang for a little while, just listening to the sound of the nearby river and enjoying the wonderful fall weather. I found myself talking to God and just praising Him for all the wonderful things He has done. He has been so good to me. I started to giggle, just liking about how wonderful He is. I felt like a little kid, swinging and grinning (trying to contain my giggles from becoming audible) and basking in His greatness. What a glorious afternoon.
It was just the refreshment my soul needed.
If you haven't done this recently, I highly recommend it. I hadn't realized how thirsty my soul was until I was refreshed with the quenching water only He can give.
You don't need a swing set or even the outdoors. Just take some time, get away from all the other distractions, and tell our Father how amazing He is. Just love on Him. And, as is necessary for any two way communication, spend some time listening. Give Him a chance to speak. Give Him the attention you desire from your children or anyone you are speaking to. You will not be disappointed.
I do not spend enough time undistracted in the presence of our Lord. Join me in an effort to increase our time in communion with the Father. We know it is good. Let's develop the discipline of enacting this head-knowlegde.
May you be blessed by your pursuit of God. And may you not give up when Satan rears his ugly head.
